Badtameez Dil

Singers : Benny Dayal, Shefali Alvares

A crazy track ! A killer track ! ‘Badtameez Dil’ has already set the charts on fire thanks to a fabulous promo where Ranbir is in his energetic best with some jaw dropping moves. The lyrics are mad and so it should be in a track like this. Benny Dayal launches himself completely in this track & is sure set to sweep hearts. For those who have seen the visuals, this number must have reminded Shammi Kapoor’s moves. Shefali Alvares makes her presence felt in the last stanza of the song right during the second interlude and does a great job too.

Balam Pichkari

Singers : Vishal Dadlani, Shalmali Kholgade

A holi number ! Infact, a rocking holi number ! ‘Balam Pichkari’ is basically a folk tune fused with modern arrangements to make it sound like a holi number & it works. Vishal Dadlani, a mighty composer of his own lends his vocals & does a good job. But, the show stealer is Shalmali Kholgade with her fun singing. This number is laden with some peppy fillers & the tone of the song is high on ‘mast’ quotient. A sure winner !

Dilli Wali Girlfriend

Singers : Arijit Singh, Sunidhi Chauhan

It’s Bhangra time ! All the aspects related to this song are catchy – be it the lyrics, the singing, the tune, the interludes. Add some super cool moves to it and you get a chartbuster. Arijit Singh, fresh from the success of ‘Aashiqui 2’ is in full form & yeah, you do have Sunidhi Chauhan, the reigning queen of such songs. Get on the dancing shoes !

Singers : Vishal Dadlani, Rekha Bharadwaj

The much expected Madhuri Dixit comeback number ! This song just sizzles in every aspect. Rekha Bharadwaj simply steals the show from Vishal Dadlani & even the lyrics. We all know this one’s going to set the screen on fire. The song’s beats & instrumentation bears resemblance to ‘Kajra Re’ but it doesn’t deter the hook which it has on the listeners. The table, harmonium orchestra gels well with the tune & the end product, a rocking number !

Singers : Mohit Chauhan

The rockstar Jodi is back ! Mohit Chauhan-Ranbir Kapoor team up once again for this odd number. The ‘Phir Se Udd’ hangover is still felt. However different this track might sound, one gets the feeling that Mohit Chauhan improvised a lot during the final stages. This might appear in the movie as a montage. There is also a reprise version of the same track with the same singer. However, there is nothing much to write about it.

Singers : Rekha Bharadwaj, Tochi Raina

One of the album’s best tracks ! This is Rekha Bharadwaj’s show all the way. ’Kabira’ is a slow, emotional track that works for most parts. The ‘Kabira’ loop is very catchy. Tochi Raina’s portions have a ‘sufi’ hangover to it unlike Rekha who sings it with a folkish touch. Yet, the song as a whole gels well. There’s an undercurrent of guitar usage right throughout the song that makes its presence felt. The same tune remains intact in the encore version also with vocals by Arjit Singh & Harshdeep Kaur equally competent.

Singers : Sreeram, Shilpa Rao

‘Subanallah’ is sung by Indian Idol fame Sreeram & Shilpa Rao, who has had a fantastic year. With ‘Subanallah’, the album gets pretty long & despite this number being easy on the ears, it gets overshadowed by the album’s other rocking songs. A good listen but definitely not the popular pick from the album !

Picks of the album : Badtameez Dil, Balam Pichkari, Ghagra, Kabira, Dilli Wali Girlfriend

Album Verdict : Ranbir’s equation with rocking songs are intact !
