Franchises seem to be the latest buzz word in Bollywood and with Yamla Pagla Deewana being a hit , it only makes sense to have a sequel with a hope to continue the success streak . It is one of the most anticipated movies and why not with a star cast boasting of Deol trio who made the first instalment a fun and feisty treat. The first part had some pretty funky tracks such as the title track and the funky ‘Tinku Jiya’. This movie has Sharib-Toshi as its music composer and let’s sees if they are able to live up to the audiences’ expectations-

1) Yamla Pagla Deewana:

Compared to the first one this one is funkier and club friendly. The song has a tempo that is midrange and works well for the tune and the overall feel. It is catchy and the lyrics are apt and humorous. It might not be the most energetic song but it is groovy enough to make up for its tempo.

2) Changli Hai Changli Hai:

A song with Mika Singh and Shreya Ghoshal and the result is nothing less than a ‘mast’ track which will make you want to groove along. The track has Marathi elements with the obvious Punjabi ones and the result is pretty good.

3) Suit Tera Laal Rang Da:

A typical Punjabi track and one of my personal favourites in the album. The tempo is neither extremely fast nor very slow but has romantic elements in it which makes it a fun, melodious and yet a track that you can dance to. Sonu Nigam and Sunidhi Chauhan’s voice complement each other very well to create this sweet and peppy number.

4) Main Taan Aidan Hi Nachna:

The mix of Punjabi and English lyrics make this track unique and has a fun club track sort of a feel and glorifies their style of dance . The melee’ of singers do justice to the music and the lyrics.

5) Jatt Yamla Pagla Ho Gaya:

Most of the tracks are not very fast but at  the same time have a beat in them which is quite irresistible and this song continues that.  Mika’s voice has the usual pump in it and Suzanne D’Mello’s voice complements the song very well.

6) Saadi Daaru Da Paani:

This is another version of the title track and is again a pleasant listen.

7) Jatt Yamla Pagla Ho Gaya (version):

This is a remixed version and the main difference is the tempo else it is more or less the same and is not unpleasant but nothing unique or special.

8) YPD2 –Mashup:

The album concludes with the Mashup which seems to be a requirement in every album these days. It is a good mix of all the tracks though not one of my favourites.

Picks of the album: Suit Tera Laal Rang Da, Jatt Yamla Pagla Ho Gaya, Changli Hai

Verdict:  At first glance or should I say listen , the domination of Punjabi music might be a little too much but going by the movie requirements it is necessary and does the job pretty well. There are a few tracks that are funky, feisty and make for a good listen. All in all a good album which has its moments.
