‘What about us’ is the fourteenth single and first North American single release by British-Irish girl group ‘The Saturdays.’ The single has managed bag the number one slot in the UK singles chart, for the very first time in their six-year career. Does this one really deserve to make to the top slot? Let’s find out.
The song begins on a peppy note with the acoustic on a low-beat tempo to let the glassy, velvety voice takes centre stage. The song drifts into a racy fast-track with the keeping the peppy-ness right in place and taking the song to a level that matches the crazyness of the lyrics.
The chorus is the best part of the song, partly, because the acoustics are in full swing in terms of the deliverance towards the song and partly because of the magnanimity of the voices of all the singers put together gives it just the desired effect. Amazing choice of auditory effects, which make sure the song doesn’t go unnoticed. And yes, each singer comes alive and stands apart even amidst the chaos that the composition proves to be.
Speaking of the top slot that song has gotten to, the song isn’t as extraordinary as one would expect it to be. Though better than
the other tracks by the group, the song could have better in terms of its versatility, the lyrics, the interludes and the ending. Although, what saves the song is the girls coming together in the chorus.
Album verdict: It’s not gonna stick with you, but you will like it, nonetheless.
