The much expected music album of Vijay film ‘Thupakki’ is finally out. Eventually Thupakki was trending on twitter during the audio release. The film apart from Vijay stars Kajal Agarwal, Vidyut, Jeyaram and Sathyan. The movie has been directed by none other than A R Murugadoss and the music is composed by Harris Jeyaraj. Harris’ previous album with Vijay, ‘Nanban’ had a mix of experimentation that worked well for Harris. Let us see if the same has been done this time too.

 Poi Varavaa ★★★½☆

 Alaika laika ★★½☆☆
 Google Google ★★★½☆
 Jagdish on Mission(Theme) ★★★½☆

Poi Varavaa
Artist(s): Karthik, Chinmayee

The song wonderfully describes the journey of an army man from home. The lyrics is wonderfully penned by Pa. Vijay and Karthik has made it more pleasant with his wonderful voice. It is a very good addition to the album which is dominated by peppy fast songs. A special mention should be given to the chorus and background humming by Chinmaye.

Kutti Puli Kootam
Artist(s): Hariharan, Tippu, Narayana, Satyan, Ranina Reddy

This song starts with a bhangra introduction. It is a dance number for all the Vijay fans out there. However some parts of the song reminds us of another Harris’ song in Ayan. The song is a decent try but fails to have the energy level throughout.

Artist(s): Vijay Prakash, Krish, Rajeev, Devan

The Harris – Vijay Prakash – Vijay – Madhan Karky combo is back after the successful asku laska from Nanban. The song has Harris’ signature beats and guitar background. Madhan Karky comes out with some more inclusion scientific terms in his lyrics(like RADAR and SONAR) after Irumbile from Endhiran. The song also gives out the name of Kajal’s character in the movie.

Artist(s): Hariharan, Bombay Jayashri

Another song with Hindi influence in the same album. The vocals by Hariharan and Bombay Jayshree takes us smoothly into the melody. The song has a decent inclusion of various Indian instruments which adds a good touch. However there is a slight resemblance with Ragasiya Kanavugal and Partha Mudhal Naale(may be because of similar genre from the same singers). A decent melody, will probably make a better impact with visuals.

Alaika laika:

Artist(s): Javed Ali, Sayanora Philip, Sharmila

This song is just another duet sung by Javed Ali and Sayanora Philip. Javed has improved his tamil pronunciation(comparing with Kilimanjaro from Endhiran) and has done a good job. May become a passing sensation among youngsters for sometime due to its fast pace and liveliness.

Google Google:

Artist(s): Vijay, Andrea Jeremiah, Joe, Krishna Iyer

Vijay is back with his singing and he has done a good job. Andrea’s voice sounds cute and suits the song very well. Lyricist Madhan Karky ropes in all trendy words including references to social networking sites like facebook and twitter. This song with its pace and the ‘Vijay factor’ will make it to the upper section of the charts.

Jagdish on Mission(Theme):

A decent instrumental theme which has clearly dedicated sections for action sequences and heroic sequences in the movie. This theme is already popular as it was out with the trailer.

Overall ★★★★★★★☆☆☆

Verdict : So, the much awaited album has released and Vijay’s fans are very excited. The album has some good peppy songs, melodies and an instrumental theme but that special ingredient is missing. Seems like Harris has found a formula by overlapping his standard template with that of Vijay’s. On a overall note, this album is a treat for all the Vijay fans and just another decent album for others.
