The fourth single off of Eminem’s new, highly successful album Marshall Mathers LP 2, “the monster” featuring Rihanna has topped the charts and dominated for quite some time! Looks like Eminem is back in style, with a number of hits, including Berzerk, Survival and Rap God.

The song starts off with the chorus from Rihanna which, while admittedly catchy, is still a bit generic and familiar. Nothing new here folks, but it does have that charm that induces a need to sing along.

As the first few lines say, the song is about an internal struggle with contradictory expectation, reconciliation with the inner voices, and a slight dash of defensiveness for this. Eminem, who was recently voted  ‘Global Icon’  on the MTV EMA Music Awards, has some rather well written lyrics for this four-minute gem, although the rapping does sound slightly choppy in places.

The song is catchy and interesting on the first run, but on successive listens, the choppiness of the rap gets a little irritating. It’s all part of the same formula with nothing really new. But what’s wrong with good ol’ Eminem style? Nothing, if the charts are an indication!

Verdict: This monster has bitten itself a sizeable chunk of the charts and earned the dotting of its listeners!
