Zinda – Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

There’s always a buzz around when people with a knack for quality music join hands.  The quality of music in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s earlier films like Delhi 6, Rang De Basanthi are well known. Farhan Akthar & his association with Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have churned out innumerable hits in the past with albums like Dil Chahtha Hai, Karthik Calling Karthik, Lakshya, Don, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Rock-On, Luck By Chance(Though not all these films were directed by Farhan, he was still associated in all the above films). Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, fresh from the successful reception of ‘Vishwaroopam’ & critical acclaim of ‘Chittagong’ is back again in this Milkha Singh biopic. ’Zinda’, the first single from the album caught enough attention ever since the teaser was released few months ago. Siddharth Mahadevan, the son of evergreen Shankar Mahadevan makes his much-awaited debut.

Mera Yaar – Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

‘Zinda’ was rocking & while one wondered how the rest of the album would turn out, the magical trio of Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy have come out with ‘Mera Yaar’. The song starts off slowly with guitar strumming & vocals kick-in later. Javed Bashir single-handedly owns this song with his towering vocals. The chord progression throughout the song deserves special mention. The song has an earthy, soulful feeling attributed to it. The vocal-fillers enhance the song & surprisingly, this number doesn’t have a distinct second interlude but the singing makes up for it. ’Mera Yaar’ is another feather in the composer’s cap & is a worthy successive release to Zinda. Now that both the songs(Zinda & Mera Yaar) are extremely brilliant, a fantastic platform has been laid for the remaining songs in the album to scorch the charts.
