Friedrich Nietzche once said, “Without music, life would be a mistake”. Music is just not about the lyrics or tune, it’s about the impact it leaves on people, it has the power to make the audience dance and cry but most of all music controls our emotions which can make us act in a certain way.
On a similar note, Sunshine Orchestra was established by A.R. Rahman foundation and KM music. It aims at bridging the gap between the different sections of the society and also empowering people of lower socio- economic status through music. The foundation is also an initiative to encourage education in music for those who are passionate.
Children who are part of this orchestra learn western classical music and string instruments. One of the parent of a
child who has been learning “cello” from the past four years as part of Sunshine Orchestra says that “For us music was just something to listen and enjoy, but through this initiative my son has learned how to play the cello and is on the final stages of completing his learning. Not everyone gets an opportunity like this”.
The Sunshine Orchestra has been helping children establish and work for their dreams. It has been guiding force for many under privileged children who cannot afford to learn music by going to class and paying high fees. Srinivas Murthy, the mentor and the other mentors have been helping these kids learn and build a career for themselves. They also get an opportunity to record their music in a well equipped music studio.
Small things like this can make a big difference and if celebrities like A.R. Rahman take such initiatives that day isn’t far when this society will be a better place for the underprivileged to live in.
