Mychael Danna with the Golden Globe For Life of Pi

Toronto composer, Mychael Danna picked up his first Golden Globe award Sunday night when Life of Pi won for Original Score.

Life of Pi, Based on the novel by Yann Martel, involves a young boy Pi, who is stuck on a lifeboat with a Bengal Tiger in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.  Danna used a wide variety of instruments to capture the mood and the essence of the story beautifully.

After thanking the film’s director Ang Lee, Danna acknowledged his parents for “the gift of music that you gave me” and mentioned his friends and children back in Toronto.

Life of Pi  has also landed him two Oscar nominations and he’s up for a British Academy Film Award as well.

Danna’s work also include “Moneyball,” “The Time Traveler’s Wife,” “500 Days of Summer” and “Little Miss Sunshine.”
