Artist: Ellie Goulding
Album: The Hunger Games- Catching Fire OST
Label: Mercury Records, Republic Records
After Bittersweet, the hot mess of a track that was a part of Twilight: Breaking Dawn, Part 2 Original Soundtrack, Goulding hits it off in another “epic” saga OST with Mirror. While I’m yet to watch Catching Fire, the film adaptation of the second part of the The Hunger Games series… this track, a part of the OST released on November 19th, 2013, feels like it carries a tiny part of the film’s soul. From the ethereal background melody in the beginning to Goulding’s vocals that feel like a splash of cold water until the fiery, resolute chorus steals the show, Mirror gave me the chills.
The song, in hindsight, seems to lead up to the chorus and the chorus is utterly transfixing. There is no one better than Ellie Goulding to reflect Katniss Everdeen, The Girl Who Was on Fire. Her vocals are equal amounts of measured and powerful and it pierces you, like an arrow to the heart. The lyrics reignite moments in the series; especially the turmoil that comes with conquering the arena. There are also parts that feel like filler words leading up to the chorus, at least until the second listen when it adds up a bit more… but with Goulding’s vocals, there’s no complaining.
Despite the slow, dreamy pace, Mirror had every bit of my attention. It was seamless, graceful and lingering. Definitely a must-listen for The Hunger Games and Ellie Goulding fans!
Bottomline: A must-listen as far as The Hunger Games and Ellie Goulding
fans are concerned!
