Artist: Pink ft. Nate Reuss
Song: Just Give Me A Reason
Just Give Me A Reason by Pink ft. Nate Reuss is the third single from Pink’s sixth studio album, The Truth About Love. It is Pink’s fourteenth Billboard Top 10 single and at current peak position #5, meaning it’s as big as her other two drop-dead amazing singles ‘So What’ and ‘Perfect’! It has created quite the splash, garnering strong digital sales and topping international charts. Released on 26th February 2013 by RCA and written by Pink, Nate Reuss from Fun and Jeff Bhasker, the simplest word to describe this song would be “bewitching”!
The song, from its opening piano line, is designed to hook you in. Pink has an earthy voice takes you places with lyrics that contain emotionally captivating hooks. To be perfectly honest, the opening lines are kind of cheesy. But as soon as it slides into a faster drum-bass beat, the rhythmic chorus kicks in! The lines “Just a second we’re not broken just bent/And we can learn to love again” get to me everytime! They have the power to literally reduce me to mush.
It’s not long before Nate Reuss from the band Fun (of We Are Young fame) chimes in, his voice clear and carrying. As their voices blend in, it is pure starry-eyed bliss. Think rust, tears, empty hearts and truckloads of hope for a train wreck of a relationship. The lines “just a second we’re not broken just bent” sent a shiver down my spine the second time as Pink’s and Reuss’s voices sounded out-of-this-world awesome together.
By the time the final piano chords are played, it’s hard to be satisfied with just a taste of that vividly painted relationship. Pink’s and Reuss’s vocals along with the haunting and gradually built melodies are not made for just one listen. The addictive pop melody, varying ranges covered and the complementary quality of Pink’s and Reuss’s voices makes this single inimitable!
Verdict: Pretty lyrics, great vocals ! This song is pop goodness.
