Heart Attack by Demi Lovato (of Sonny With a Chance fame and X Factor judge) is a catchy electropop track that?s an outpour of energy and almost-broken defenses! It is the lead single for her fourth studio album, Demi that is scheduled to release on the 14th of May, 2013 by Hollywood Records. The single debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 12, has so far reached the peak position of 10 and has once again, at the moment, returned to number 12. Heart Attack comes very close to being my favourite Demi song (my favourite is Skyscraper, which has to be her most intimate and cathartic song ever).

?Puttin? my defenses up/?Cause I don?t want to fall in love/If I ever did that/I think I?d have a heart attack? are the opening lines that are sung in a way that is bold, fierce and electrifying. Demi sounds at the top of her game with her carrying vocals! ?When I don?t care/I can play ?em like a Ken doll.?

Then comes the hint of vulnerability in this classic girl-meets-boy-and-suddenly-it?s-different scenario. ?For you, make me so nervous/That I just can?t hold your hand?. While some of the escalating beats are a little predictable and typically angsty, it?s a perfect complement to Demi?s vocals. She covers a tremendous range, especially when her voice soars at the chorus! The range covered is perfect to portray the rollercoaster of emotions felt when you have feelings for someone that you?re reluctant to unearth.

Her vocals are at an all time high when she sings, ?And then I burst into fla-a-a-ames?, completely justifying the comparison of intense attraction to a heart attack you never saw coming. The guitar-drum work is toned down at this juncture, stripping the song down to its core elements.

Heart Attack is a guilty-pleasure single that?s sure to get a lot of airplay. More than anything, it is also an amazing showcase of Demi?s vocals which have been compared to the likes of Kelly Clarkson! Definitely makes me want to listen to more of this relatively underrated Disney artist?s album when it?s out!

Verdict: A radio-friendly guilty pleasure featuring explosive vocals!
