1. It’s a game

Singer: Vishal Dadlani

The opening bgm of the song builds up a mood of suspense and thrill. Taken over by the tenor Vishal Dadlani, the song grows up from being slow and cold into a fierce and punchy intro number. Modulating his baritone quite well, Vishal seems to have given his best in the song. SEL have included a lot of technical elements in the song that have worked out very well. In all, a perfect gaming intro…

2. Maine ye kab socha tha

Singers: Shaan, Anushka Mani, Loy Mendonsa

This is a soft, soothing number crooned by Shaan and Anusha. Starting off slow, the song neatly picks up pace and delivers the romantic essence. The refrain “am falling in love” is pleasant to the ears even as it fades out in the end. Kudos to the trio. A melancholic mood sets in towards the middle but the song spirits up soon. Composing such romantic melodies is indeed a child’s play for the trio who have produced evergreen winners like “aao na” and ”chupke se sun”.

Pick of the pack!

3. Mehki Mehki

Singers: Kshitij, Shreya Ghoshal

Mehki Mehki is a sensual cabret number. A stylish humming by Shreya marks the beginning of the song which is followed by fast, naughty western instruments. Shreya Ghoshal has made her presence felt with her honey coated voice and has well captured the mood of the song. A variety of subtle and vibrant sounds makes the song an engaging listen. Although the song seems to lose its momentum in the middle portions, it doesn’t fail to impress.

4. Kaun hai ajnabi

Singers: Kay Kay, Aditi Singh Sharma

Another sensual song from the album, this one has an intriguing effect on the listener. Closely resembling the bond theme, the song moves ahead fast generating the much needed suspense.

Kay Kay does a fine rendition of the song but it is the female lead who steals the show by modulating her voice at several places. Despite being important with respect to the progress of the movie(as suggested by the lyric), the song somewhere lacks freshness and power.

5. It’s a game (Reprise)

Singer: Sunitha Sarathy

Sunita Sarathy exhibits her vocal prowess by effortlessly reaching the sopranos as well as the lower portions. Sounding much the same, the reprise song doesn’t offer anything more than the intro, in terms of suspense and thrill. Nevertheless, a commendable rendition by the singer.

6. Mehki Mehki (Remix)

Singers: Kshitij, Shreya Ghoshal

Again , except being fast, the song is no different from the normal version. SEL have not added any special elements into this remix number.Nothing much to talk about.

7. Kaun hai ajnabi (Remix)

Singers: Kay Kay, Aditi Singh Sharma

Better than the mehki remix, this one appears to have worked out for the trio. The extra techno effects incorporated suit the theme of the song very well. However, towards the end, the song compromises on the thrill and suspense and turns out to be a party number.

Verdict:

The Shankar Ehsaan Loy trio have offered a fairly good musical through GAME. The songs “Maine ye kab socha tha”, “It’s a game”  stand out sounding impressive. With a number of accomplished singers like Shaan, Kay Kay and Shreya, SEL have scored a promising music that supports the theme of the movie. Yet, the album as a whole, lacks that magical touch of the trio’s evergreen hits like “Dil Chahta Hai” and “Kal Ho Na Ho”.  In all, they may not be great winners, but SEL have definitely not lost the GAME!

Overall Album ★★★½☆
