Ek Thi Daayan is a Bollywood Horror film directed by Kannan Iyer. The Music has been tuned by Vishal Bharadwaj who is known for the classic melodies that he has dished out over the years. Lets see how the album has turned out.
|Totey Ud Jaa||Suresh Wadkar, Sukhwinder Singh, Rekha|
|Kaali Kaali||Clinton Cerejo|
|Lautungi Main||Rekha Bharadwaj|
|Sapna Re Sapna||Padmanabh Gaikwad|
The song opens with a freestyle guitar strumming. Its perfect for night time listening. Light on the ears and possessed with a soothing tune, this song scores. Sunidhi, like always , doesnt fail to impress. The sound is
very live and the acoustic guitar layer forms the soul of the song. A neat job overall.
2. Totey Ud Jaa
A lively experiment from Vishal Bharadwaj. It has its amusing moments and sure is foot tapping and peppy. The vocalists have done their part in sounding rustic and edgy. But again, something doesnt add up. Its not something you’ll have on your playlist for too long.
3. Kaali Kaali
This is a haunting number crooned by Clinton Cerejo. Again, the tune is very relaxing and sound is ambient. The interplay of strings , piano and acoustic guitar do accentuate the feel and emotion. Clinton does a commendable job.
A dark, melancholic number , this song has a slow tempo and one really needs to get into the mood of the song to appreciate its finer nuances and admire its beauty. Not instantly likeable, but something that will catch on after multiple listens. Rekha Bharadwaj sounds beautiful as always and carries the song on her shoulders very ably. Very well composed. Loved it.
5. Sapna Re Sapna
Beautiful. Just Beautiful! This is perfect Coke Studio material. Armed with a lilting tune, ethereal vocals from the kid and sedate instruments this song blows you away. The melodious flute interlude deserves special mention. This song has helped tip the scales of an album that was meandering around mediocre. Great stuff. Two thumbs up.
Vishal Bharadwaj is one of the most reliable music makers around today. Melody is his strong point and he has scored on that front. This album does impress in parts but fails to make a lasting impression. This is more the kind of album you’ll like but it doesnt really excite you. Though being far from his best work, this isn’t a bad album by any means.
