Are you a ‘Diva’ baby? On the contrary, earning ‘Diva’ status is actually a very good thing. According to Wikipedia: “a diva is a celebrated female singer”, “female deity”, “and goddess”. All Divas classed with this single word are successful, independent, headstrong go-getters – and yes they have it all.
Diva status belongs to Barbra Streisand, Diana Ross, Gloria Gaynor, Donna Summer, Aretha Franklin, Cher, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Celine Dion, Mariah Carey, Madonna, Beyoncé, Mary J Blige, Pink, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Fergie, Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Adele and Alicia Keys. These lead female singers are top-earners and talented professionals that have worked unbelievable hours and years at being brilliant to reach the top and break records.
When any person starts their career they start at the bottom and have to work to the top to earn respect; combine skill and knowledge to increase experience, be vigilant at reaching their goal, however be as nice as pie to ultimately get what they want. Climbing from the bottom of the ladder means sacrifice, sweat, tears, stamina and perseverance. It is not as easy as it sounds and a lot of the time, people on the way to the top of success make many business as well as personal sacrifices.
When in a stronger position after two years or maybe at the point of signing a new recording contract, that is when the requests for more come in. And when the press finds out, well these terms can be over exaggerated and put into a bad light.
For instance, did you know that Madonna removes the toilets she uses whilst on tour? Not because Madonna has a luxury toilet to use, but in case some freak fan decides to steal the toilet disposed of and sell it on eBay. Diva demands, as the press call it, are mostly for safety and protection against misuse by the public later on. Some extreme fluffy toys that Mariah Carey requested were on the extravagant side, but have you ever been to the seedy backstage dressing rooms and seen the not-so-glamourous side of touring? It’s not pretty. So if Mariah or any other Diva includes a little redecorating, so be it, they certainly deserve it after the numerous shows they’ve performed at with cockroaches breeding happily.
Attitude is another part of Diva status that press and fan-haters misinterpret. Attitude is about confidence and in the music industry superstars are very competitive because they want to be number one. Women have been fighting for the spotlight way longer than men ever have, since the Women’s vote came into play round 1918, and yes women are far more aggressive in making sure their needs and wants are met. If you mess with her goal, well you will see attitude and confidence of a woman who knows exactly how to achieve what she wants, and telling you it is best you do not stand in her way. The matter of the fact is, Miss Diva is probably right about her next career move, so roll with it. Look at Barbra Streisand, the first singer music jobs and actress to tell her directors what to do and how to do it – and awarded with a grammy!
Diva status is earned. Women work harder than men to be twice as good, yet do not earn as much – in the old days. ‘Woah, here she comes” she’s a real Diva.
