Album Analysis:

1. Duma Dum

Singers: Mika Singh, Gaurav Gupta and Mani Mahadevan

The classic oldie Duma Dum Mastkalander is back again in this Spy Thriller movie supposedly based on Dawod Ibrahim’s Life. Many might have heard a version of this track in David, but this is more retro type with heavy ghazalish  feel to it. The songs fits to this era so well even though the visual is set a couple of decades before. S-E-L have used their imagination well, when it comes to the arrangement and it is visible in this track. Mika steals the show. Impressive.

Oldie Reincarnated.

2. Alvida

Singers: Nikhil d’souza, Shruti Haasan and Shukhwinder Singh

Before this track was released Shruthi Haasan voice was the most talked about. Right to the trends, Shruti Haasan has got it bang on. Nikhil Starts the song in very soothing slow voice which clearly indicated this tract to be a slow melody. Sruthi’s voice comes next and it is very pleasant. Both their voices blend well with the backing instrumentation, but it is Sukhwinder Singh who catches all the attention with his high pitch voice. He is right on the flow with the music and it simply scintillating. The guitar work is brilliant and the slow beats add to the trance and keep you hooked. S-E-L have given a magical track.

Pick of the album, Magical number from SEL.

3. Murshid Khele Holi

Singers: Javed Ali, Munawar Masoom and Shankar Mahadevan

If you have liked Arziyan and Kun Faiya Kun, will this is for you. This track is not a bad track but very lengthy track. Going by its lyrics, this should fit well with the visuals but as a track it needs lot of patience. A guzal number with some beautiful arrangements, lending voice are some of the greats in the industry. That shows how much the composer trio must have worked on this track and how serious they would have considered this. Going by the music, voice and lyrics everything is outstanding. Be it harmonium, tabla and chorus clapping from behind everything is perfectly arranged and executed well. If you love ghazal numbers then you are sure to enjoy this on repeat.

Long but layered track.

4. Ek Gadhi

Singers: Rekha Bhardwaj

After delivering a massive hit with Kabira, Rekha Bharadwaj is back with a Sufi number. Her voice has a massive talent to be one of the best singers and after this track she can even go full on with Hindustani music. The track gives a feeling of very emotional break of events. The deep bell sound metaphorically points time which is the track name, but it is the Nadaswaram and Tabla that is soothing and engaging. Unlike Murshid Khele Holi this isn’t that long but it does have a track length of around 6 min. With its slow paced nature it might feel like very daunting towards the end.

Out and out classic number from Rekha Bharadwaj.

5. Dhuaan

Singers: Rahul Ram and Siddharth Mahadevan

A fresh track with some great orchestra work Dhuaan starts with deep voice of Rahul Ram. The orchestra gives a western feel and the two young singers make this track attractive and engaging. Going by its slow nature it might look like a long track but this is a very short number. S-E-L deserve all the credits for the beautiful arrangements. Lyrics are very simple and apt.Neat track to end the album.

Picks Of The Album: Alvida, Duma Dum, Ek Gadhi.

Album Verdict: A gangster flick with perfect feel. When you consider doing a Spy Thriller based on gangster’s life you can expect some long track with orchestra work to give the gangster feel. S-E-L has captured the essence perfectly and delivered it in a very beautiful fashion. Though these songs are not for normal audience who enjoy short songs with entertaining beats, I would suggest them to give an ear to it at least once. Composer trio have kept the visuals in mind and composed the songs, and it is visible in the last 3 track. Though this might not be a commercially successful album it has all the ingredients to deserve awards.
