Adele was initially interested to get into the Artists and Repertoire(A&R) which involves talent scouting and launching the careers of other artists. Four months after graduation Adele recorded a few songs for her friend for a class project which was uploaded later on MySpace, where it went relatively viral and was immediately noticed by the XL recording studious that led to a phone call requesting her to sign a deal with them! She became the first recipient of the BRIT Awards Critics’ Choice and was named the number-one predicted breakthrough act of 2008 in an annual BBC poll of music critics, Sound of 2008.

It is believed that Adele’s streak of bad relationships and her addiction to alcohol turned out to produce such deep soulful songs , but there is also another sympathetic story to her childhood. Adele’s father left her when she was three and Adele’s mother was barely out of her teenage then. After her short success she gave up her drinking habits owing to the hectic schedule of recording and touring but still seeks a chance to get back with her boyfriend and has no room for forgiveness whatsoever for her dad.

Adele’s entry into the U.S became more significant after she appeared in the SNL show on October 2008 along with Sarah Palin. The program earned its best ratings in 14 years with 17 million viewers. Adele performed “Chasing Pavements” and “Cold Shoulder”,on the show and the following day, ’19’ topped the iTunes charts and ranked at number five at Amazon.com while “Chasing Pavements” rose into the top 25. Adele released her second album ’21’ on n 24 January 2011 in the UK and 22 February in the US and the album reached the number 1 status in 26 countries, including the US and UK. An emotional performance of “Someone Like You” at the 2011 BRIT Awards on 15 February propelled the song to number one in the UK. Her first album, 19, re-entered the UK album chart alongside 21, while first and second singles “Rolling in the Deep” and “Someone Like You” were in the top 5 of the UK singles chart, making Adele the first living artist to achieve the feat of two top-five hits in both the Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart simultaneously since the Beatles in 1964. By December 2011, 21 sold over 3.4 million copies in the UK, and became the biggest-selling album of the 21st century, overtaking Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black.

Despite the unparalleled success Adele still wanted to promote her album by performing the Adele Live tour and due to her intense performing sessions she suffered a vocal hemorrhage in October 2011. She later underwent laser microsurgery at Massachusetts General Hospital during the first week of November. Following her throat microsurgery in November, Adele made her live comeback at the 2012 Grammy Awards in February. She won in all six categories in which it was shown, making her the second female artist after Beyoncé Knowles in Grammy Awards history to win six categories in a single night. After that it has all been uphill for this sensational artist. Adele released a statement saying it will be another 4 – 5 years before she releases her next album. Looks like she is going through one of those soul searching phases but all we can do is eagerly wait for a rumour of the slightest chance of her coming back at the earliest possible !
