Yash Chopra

Indian cinema was bereft of yet another icon on Sunday. Legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra breathed his last yesterday, 21st October 2012, due to complications arising from Dengue. Yash Chopra is very popular for creating some of the most enduring and memorable love stories in Bollywood and is a mentor for several superstars of B-town.

‘The King of Romance’ as he is well known, is also the man responsible for moulding Amitabh Bachchaan as the ‘angry young man of India’ in his iconic ‘Deewar’ and also the man behind Shahrukh Khan’s lover-boy image. Yashji debuted with Dhool ka Phool(1959) and then went on to make blockbusters like ‘Deewar’, ‘Trishul’ , ‘Silsila’, ‘Lamhe’, ‘Darr’, ‘Veer Zaara’ among others. He had just completed the shooting for his final movie, ironically titled ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ starring Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma.

Yashji’s tragic demise has put the entire Indian film fraternity in a state of shock. This is a great loss not just for Bollywood, but for Indian Cinema in general. Yashji has left behind a void that is impossible to fill.
