1. Party Hat
Wandering Bards seem to want to make sure you have a good time. This is a song that could make people of any age crack a big smile, and you can’t fault that. The groove is funky and upbeat, with solid musicianship and some surprisingly good vocal lines.
2. Wild Rovin’ Rose
A slick sounding lounge/blues track that the Bards add their own signature sound to. Once again, it has a fun vibe and comes across as a loving tribute.
3. I Believe in Elvis
Silly to the core, this sounds like early Bare Naked Ladies. Some great musical breakdowns here.
4. A Hazy Place
Possibly the funkiest track on the album, the groove is solid and the message is sound.
Wandering Bards are an extremely unusual folk/funk band that seem perfect for bringing people together with their positive lyrics and general silliness. Fans of everyone from Barenaked Ladies and the Blues Brothers to Weird Al Yankovic should enjoy the work on “Party Hat”. Those who can’t stomach the cheesy aspects of the lounge singing here may not enjoy, but anyone looking for a family friendly spirit booster should respect what these New Jersey boys have cooked up. The musicianship is nothing short of fantastic and the sense of humor is welcome in today’s world.
