Cop dramas have always been movies that have fared quite well and recently we saw the record breaking Dabangg carry this trend forward. Mumbai Mirror, which deals with corruption and such. Without any top actors to back it up the plot and screenplay would have to save the day. Music is another important factor that can carry a movie forward, so let’s see if the music creates ripples.

Album Analysis:
1. Doom Pe Lakdi: Sung by various songs, this one attempts to have a complete Mumbai feel with both lyrics and music .sound like something that would be picturized on the hero and his role in the movie. Even though it is fast paced and has loads of back ground beats but somehow lacks something, so not something amazing. It might make you move to the beat but will not compel you to get up and dance like a madman.
2. Marjawa (male): Easily the best in the album, the music is pretty good but tries to add too many instruments and sounds so does not really sound amazing. Sonu Nigam’s voice sounds really smooth and melodious as usual and helps to take the song up by a few notches. There are some parts that are really nice.
3. Govinda Ala Re: From the choice of instruments to the feel it spells M-U-M-B-A-I. Sung by Wajid Ali this song, again lacks the punch. Sounds like the song is trying too hard to have itself heard.
4. Thumka: Somehow one would expect Shreya Ghoshal’s songs to be amazing but sometimes the singer can only do so much. No the song is not bad or hopeless or anything of that sort but just average. Reminds me of Chikni Chameli for some reason. Not a bad song but not fantastic either.
5. Blunder: It’s like no movie is complete without an item number these days and right now everyone is being subject to an overdose of these songs and in this race only if the song is fantastic does it stand out. Ritu Pathak’s voice does sound apt for this song but again nothing great. Just a one-time listen.
6. Marjawa (female): Sayantani’s voice sounds really sweet and romantic in this version. Both versions are really good but I like this just a little bit more, just a matter of personal preference since both the singers do an equally good job.
Overall there is nothing really great or special in this album except of one or maybe two songs hence there is added pressure on the plot of this movie. The songs do not exactly grab you but saying so it is not hopeless either. Perhaps some of them will sound better during the course of the movie or may just grow on you after a couple of times.
Picks of the album: Marjawa (both versions), Thumka
Verdict: Not bad but not great either
