First things first ! Yes, you read the name right – It’s our very own PRIYANKA CHOPRA who has donned the hat of a singer now. Last time we heard her do that was way back in 2001 in “Thamizhan” – her Tamil debut with Vijay under D.Imman’s music. Now, after back to back Bollywood successes in the lines of Don 2, Agneepath & Barfi, she has joined hands with “Black Eyed Peas” rapper Will.i.am. Titled as “In My City”, this single is being released under the label of Universal Music & it’s been first launched in India. Now, time for the track analysis.

Oh My God! I never knew Priyanka Chopra had this kinda voice. Her voice sounds more of a mixture of Lady Gaga & Mariah Carey. Wait ! That’s not a compliment. The one thing that really puzzles me is that why should one try really hard to sing in her false voice and did I mention that accent? The only satisfactory explanation I could come across is that the album is mainly aimed at global audience & if you can digest the above facts, then the song is in a different domain. This single has a lot of positives & to name a few,

The song completely sounds urbane & western. You would easily forget it’s been sung by an Indian as everything is so perfectly Western(the pitching, modulation, diction). The rap portion deserves a lot of attention as it has been rendered in Will.i.am’s trademark style. On the energy front, the song is high & will be lapped up by discowala’s. Regarding the instrumentations, all the regulars are heard (Synthesizers, Beat boxes etc).
