“Cocktail” starring Saif Ali Khan,Deepika Padukone marks the 2nd film of Homi Adajania who previously directed the critically acclaimed “Being Cyrus”.The promos are already making rounds with similarities already being drawn to “Vickie Cristiana Barcelona”.Initially planned as a sequel to “Love Aaj Kal”,this movie has Pritam teaming up with Saif after the musical success of “Agent Vinod”.Further,this movie teams up the pair of Saif-Deepika post “Love Aaj Kal” & “Aarakshan” for the 3rd time.Lets see what Pritam has to offer for us…

01 – Tumhi Ho Bandhu

Singers : Neeraj Shridhar & Kavita Seth

Easily,the most convincing & the best song of the album.Neeraj Shridhar adds one more hit to his chart collaborating once again with Pritam after so many successes.But,the attraction in this song is Kavita Seth whose voice is very fresh n does the trick.This is one song to look out in top charts.The hook is there in the song right from the start to the finish.

02 – Daaru Desi

Singers : Benny Dayal & Shalmali Kholgade

A western number which is typically ‘Pritamish’.Benny Dayal teams up with “Pareeshan” fame Shalmali Kholgade in this groovy,classy number.The singers do the apt job & this song is very breezy,modern & more importantly,simple.Appeal written all over it.

03 – Yaariyan

Singers : Mohan Kanan & Shilpa Rao

Pritam does a SEL here ! This is the 3rd best song of the album.If there was a “Raabta” in Agent Vinod,this one fills that gap in this album.Mohan Kanan from “Agnee” band does a neat job here & Shilpa Rao as usual does her best ! This track though has resemblances to “In My Place” from Coldplay.

04 – Second Hand Jawaani

Singers : Miss Pooja, Neha Kakkar & Nakkash Aziz

Pritam has tried to repeat his “Twist” magic which appeals only to some extent.The item-number feel & the lyrics let the song down.The interludes do not exactly gel with the song.The visuals might impress but the audio doesn’t impress that much.

05 – Tera Naam Japdi Phiran

Singers : Javed Bashir, Nikhil Dsouza & Shefali

A club,lounge number from Pritam.The choice for vocals was an interesting one.Javed Bashir from Coke Studio joins with Nikhil Dsouza & Shefali.Pritam uses all his templates & this song comes out as a winner.This track stucks in our brain for a longer time.

06 – Luttna (Saif Ul Malook)

Singers : Masuma Anwar, Sahir Ali & Anupam Amod

A very different fusion of rock n punjabi style.Pritam goes all the way out.But,this song is slightly jarring n too complex to listen.Masuma Anwar is one talent to look for.The arrangements are pretty difficult to comprehend in this track.

07 – Jugni

Singers : Arif Lohar & Harshdeep Kaur

The 2nd best song of the album.This song originally belongs to Coke Studio where it featured.Pritam has decided to retain the basic tune & has made minor adjustments.The female voice is replaced with that of Harshdeep Kaur’s & she does a good job.A pretty punjabi folk which will apply to classy people.

08 – Yaariyan (Reprise)

Singers : Sunidhi Chauhan & Arijit Singh

If there was a “Night In The Motel” in Agent Vinod,then this track is here in this album.Sunidhi Chauhan effortlessly sings those high pitches & makes this version much better than the original one.The soft ballad feel oozes romance coupled with Sunidhi’s silkened voice.A sure,feel good winner.

09 – Luttna (Version 2)

Singers : Masuma Anwar, Sahir Ali Bagga & Anupam Amod

Unlike the other version,this one has more simpler musical arrangement.This simple feel & the slow backgrounds actually make the song work better than its sibling.A contempory track.

10 – Tera Naam Japdi Phiran (Remix)

Singers : Javed Bashir, Nikhil & Shefali

The sole remix in the entire album.This offers nothing new except the added tempos & DJ’s.This track was more likely to have a scope for a remix in the entire album & “nach” lovers will lap this up.Nothing different in the musical front from the original version apart from these.

11- Angreji Beat

Singers : Gippy Grewal,Yo Yo Honey Singh

This was the single which got released weeks before & which featured in the trailer of the film.This song has all the ingredients of a pucca Pritam song.It is a punjabi-fast paced number which is originally taken from Honey Singh’s International Villager.A perfect disco number though.

So,Pritam stamps it with 4 consecutive good albums – “Agent Vinod”,”Jannat 2″,”Ferrari Ki Safari” & “Cocktail” ! “Agent Vinod” is one recent rare album where every song appealed.Cocktail is all set to carry that tradition forward although the originality of the songs do bother as most of them are straight official lifts from other tracks.All the songs have the necessary hook in them & this album is sure to sell like hot cakes.The music will single handedly earn a star for this movie no matter how the movie be.
