The audio couldn’t have released on a better day than Ajith’s birthday ! Riding high on the success of “Mankatha”,Billa 2 marks the return of Yuvan-Ajith combo ! Yuvan’s music for “Billa 2007″ came under scanner from the critics though the masses lapped it up ! Also,joining the combination,is Chakri Toleti who is directing this prequel ! Lets check what the album has in store for us….!

1.Gangster…

Explosion it is ! The album kicks off in a fascinating style ! The trance, hip-hop and techno touches to this song are typical of Yuvan ! Ajith’s fans are sure to have a blast with lyrics like “Thannai thaane sedhukiyavan”,”donukellam don billa thaan” ! Very western with increased usage of synthesizers ! The rap portion is impressive as well ! The theme music fills in throughout the song !

2.Idhayam…

Singers : Shweta Pandit

Lyrics : Na.Muthukumar

Undoubtedly,the best song of the album ! A soothing melody in Tamil after a long time ! Reminiscent of Yuvan’s earlier numbers but ear-pleasning ! Shweta Pandit sings it exceedingly well & should start singing in Tamil a lot often from now ! Very classy usage of veena,tabla,flute ! Must in “Favourites” in iPods !

3.Yedho Mayakkam…

Singers : Yuvan Shankar Raja, Tanvi Shah, Suvi Suresh

Lyrics : Na.Muthukumar

A peppy club number ! Has high influence of western songs ! Tanvi Shah does a commendable job along with Yuvan who joins her in the rap portions ! Second best song of the album ! Very fresh genre ! The nadaswaram interlude deserves mention too !! Super youthful !!

4. Madurai Ponnu…

Singers : Andrea Jeremiah

Lyrics : Na.Muthukumar

Andrea rocks right from the word GO ! This song is very rustic & yuvan always does well in case of item-numbers ! Surprisingly,the song has BGM’s from Mankatha ! The “tavil” beats blend well with the vocals ! Can expect sensational visuals ! Na.Muthukumar is at his best in this song !

5. Unakkulle Mirugam…

Singers : Ranjith

Lyrics : Na.Muthukumar

Yuvan has tried something similar to “Who Am I” song from Vaanam & the result is similar too ! The theme music is used extensively here too ! The lyrics speak of the wild side of Billa ! Not so pleasing & it might require repeated hearing and impressive filming to entice this song ! The feel of the song has traces of “Enge Enge” track from “Aasal” !

Billa 2007′s theme revisited once again ! For the theme music,yuvan has decided to keep the same from the earlier film by adding some minor changes to it ! The prelude is different from the original & the overall tempo is comparitively slow ! Though fans can easily relate with the old theme,one could feel that he could have come up with an all-together different theme music !

Album Analysis :

Yuvan has rocked it ! More emphasis is given for “Techno” beats & processed vocals rather than natural instruments ! Traditional music lovers might feel let down because of increased usage of technology over soul ! Yuvan has tried to come up with a different album which also simultaneously satisfies “Thala” fans & he has succeeded to some extent ! All the tracks are good in their own way and Yuvan has tried something different from his previous albums! Worth a listen!
