The much awaited Rani Mukherjee comeback ! Yes, and this time she is joined by south star Prithviraj who makes his much awaited Bollywood debut. With Anurag Kashyap producing this & Amit Trivedi, in the middle of his golden run composing the music, expectations were naturally high. Have they pulled off a stunner here ? The answer below :

   Song   Singers     Rating
 Dreamum Wakeupum  Sowmyah Raoh      ★★★★½
 Wakda  Amit Trivedi      ★★★½☆
Aga Bhai  Shalmali Kholgade & Monali Thakur      ★★★½☆
 Mahek Bhi  Shreya Ghoshal      ★★★★½
Sava Dollar (Lavni)  Sunidhi Chauhan      ★★★☆☆
What To Do  Sneha Khanwalkar, Amitabh Bhattacharya      ★★★★½

Album Analysis :

1. Aga Bhai

Singers : Shalmali Kholgade & Monali Thakur

The most interesting song of the album. The vocals have been purposefully processed & it works big time. This song is a complete electronic number, which is a rarity nowadays. The “Aiyaa” interlude gives the necessary edge & the song at no point bores you. Highly recommended to be heard in ear phones !

2. Mahek Bhi

Singers : Shreya Ghoshal

My personal pick of the album ! Mahek Bhi is a slow, soothing, pleasant type of song whose genre was last used extensively in “Barfi”. Shreya Ghoshal deserves all the applause. This song simply walks away with the listener’s emotions. Highly improved usage of clarinets & shenais give the song a 60’s feel. A sure entrant into any playlist !

3. Sava Dollar

Singers : Sunidhi Chauhan

This is lavani time ! Sunidhi Chauhan getting to sing a song in recent albums is almost like a ritual & she sings everything well time & again. This song though an attempted lavani is not purely a complete one as it has modern sounds too. The back up chorus portions deserve a praise too.

4. Wakda

Singers : Amit Trivedi

“Wakda” was promoted as the tagline of the film. Now, here comes a song of the same name sung by the composer himself. Wakda looks like a happy, feel -good, wedding song with a fusion of nadaswarams and mridangams with modern instruments. Amit sings it in a different voice rather than his usual husky one.

5. What To Do

Singers : Sneha Khanwalkar, Amitabh Bhattacharya

The most entertaining song of the album ! Sneha Khanwalkar after the successful outing in Gangs of Wasseypur dons the singer hat here. Amitabh Bhattacharya is equally funny here. At no point, the song looses your grip & a smile is sure to stay whenever the song is aired. The lyrics are funny, raw & the way “Ijjat Papad” is sung deserves a mention too.

6. Dreamum Wakeupum

Singers : Sowmyah Raoh

Now comes the most sought song of the album ! Controversial, clichéd, masala – call it whatever, there is no denying the fact that this song is highly entertaining. The song has a retro feel added with southern masala to it. The lyrics might sound terribly bizarre but highly catchy. Double thumbs up as far as arrangements & singing are considered & what else, you have a winner in your hands.

Album ★★★★★★★★☆☆

This is the golden phase in Amit Trivedi’s career with back to back amazing albums – Ishaqzaade, English Vinglish, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu & Aiyyaa is sure to join the list. This album will stay on as the composers one of the best ones till date. This album might not be as classy as EMET or as experimental as DevD but sure is the most entertaining album in recent times. This album is going to help the movie in a big way & with “Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana” looking great, this year might be sealed for Amit Trivedi.

Picks of the album : Aga Bhai, Mahek Bhi, What To Do & Dreamum Wakeupum

Album Verdict : Flawless Album ! All go “Wakda” !
